Volunteers

Would you like to be a volunteer at the Half Marathon?

Sunday 12th October 2008 isn't just about running. While the focus will rightly be on the athletes, whose efforts will be highly visible as they run around the course, race day also brings together an army of committed and hard working volunteers, who help to ensure that the whole event goes without a hitch.

Each year our volunteers can be seen helping in the race village, supporting the athletes out in the rural parts of the course and guiding them to the finish line as they achieve their ultimate goal of completing the half marathon or the fun runs. The volunteers, including those from St John Ambulance and also the Sea and Air Cadets, not only provide very practical support where it's needed, but let the runners know that they are there to help and encourage them.

For many of you, race day will provide your first taste of volunteering and we hope you will find the experience highly rewarding, as many have before.

We hope that your enthusiasm for volunteering will continue to grow long after the last runner has crossed the finishing line. So you know what to expect and to put you at ease, there will be volunteer briefing sessions in September, to run through roles and responsibilities.
